PM Yuva for Young Writers

CONTEXT

  • In May, 2021, the Ministry of Education Department of Higher Education launched YUVA-Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors.
  • YUVA (Young Upcoming and versatile Authors Scheme is a mentorship programme to train young authors below the age 30 years.
  • Themes- Unsung Heroes, Freedom Fighters, National Movement etc.

AIM/ PURPOSE

  • It is to provide training 75 aspiring writers to express the Indian culture and versatile authors.
  • It is to encourage young writers to write about India’s freedom struggle.
  • It is to provide opportunity to youngsters to harness their writing potentials.
  • The students can contribute to India’s intellectual discourse.
  • It is to bring reading and authorship as a preferred profession at par with other job options.
  • It is to impart a positive psychological past to the young minds amidst the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of children.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 50,000 per month for a period of six months per author will be paid under the mentorship scheme.

PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION

  • A total of 75 authors will be selected through on All Indian Contest at mygov.in.
  • The selection will be made by a committee to be constituted by NBT (National Book Trust).
  • The contest will run from 1st June to 31st July 2021.
  • The contestants will be asked to submit a manuscript of 5,000 words to judge its suitability to develop as a proper book under this mentorship scheme.
  • The names of selected authors will be announced on 15th August, 2021.
  • The selected authors will prepare manuscript for final selection under the guidance of the nominated mentors.
  • The entries of the winters will be published by 15th December 2021.
  • The published books will be launched on 12th January 2022 on YUVA DIVAS (National Youth Day).

TRAINING

  • During the phase I, training of 3 months NBT will organize a two week’s writers online programme for the selected candidates.
  • The young author will be trained by two eminent authors for NBT’s panel of accomplished authors.
  • In the next month of phase IInd training-selected candidates will get to expand their understanding and hone their skillsthrough: interaction at various international events such as literacy festivals, book fairs etc.

CONCLUSION

This YUVA scheme will ensure exchange of culture & literature thereby promoting EK BHARAT SHRESHTHA BHARAT. Hence It will create learning ecosystem & lay foundation of future leaders of the creative world.
