GOAL (Going Online As Leaders) 2.0 Programme

India's massive digital transformation can be complete when the most vulnerable communities of our society are digitally empowered. As tribal population constitutes about 8.6 per cent of the total population in India, it becomes more vital to reach every community and add them into nation's development.
GOAL 2.0 Programme

  • Launched on : 28th June, 2022 
  • A joint initiative of : Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Meta (formally facebook)
  • Fully Funded by : Meta and Involved Agencies.
  • Objective : Digital empowerment of tribal youth and women through concept of mentor and mentee.
  • The first phase was launched in : May 2020 (as a Pilot project) and completed by Dec 2021

Main highlights of the programme

  • Goal 2.0 will be open to all people from tribal communities.(whereas in Phase 1 applications were invited to become mentees)
  • The program will digitally enable tribal youth via Facebook live sessions and Meta Business Coach, a digital learning tool.
  • There will be special focus on more than 10 lakh members of 50000 Vandhan Self Help Groups. 
  • They will be digitally trained with regard to market demand, packaging, branding and marketing of their products. 
  • The GOAL 2.0 will enable maximum participation and percolation of benefits of the training within the tribal youth.
  • This will include creating Chatbot, need based online sessions from Industry experts in different fields as per requirements from the mentees.
  • Ministry of tribal affairs in coordination with Ministry of IT & Electronics, will be providing 6 digital classes in each of the 175 Eaklavya Model Residencial School (EMRS) selected under the programme.
  • The project is being implemented by The Education and Research Network (ERNET) an autonomous organization under MeiTY.

Significance

  • The programme enable lakhs of tribal women and young people to gain, so that they can be benefitted from government schemes.
  • Digitally empowered India's tribal communities would contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the country.
  • It will serve as a bridge for the socially marginalised youth to leverage opportunities using technology.
