Draft National Youth Policy (NYP), 2021

Recent Context

  • On 29 April, 2022 Government of India has reviewed the existing draft National Youth Policy, 2014 and prepared a new draft National Youth Policy (NYP) 2021. 
  • The draft NYP envisages a ten-year vision for youth development that India seeks to achieve by 2030. 
  • It is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and serves to ‘unlock the potential of the youth to advance India.
  • The draft of National Youth Policy (NYP), 2021 was prepared by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Vision and Objectives of the National Youth Policy

  • The NYP 2021 seeks to catalyse widespread action on youth development across five priority areas including –education,  employment and entrepreneurship,  youth leadership and development, health, fitness and sports, and social justice. 
  • Each priority area is underpinned by the principle of social inclusion — enabling equitable progress by including the most marginalised sections in the design, planning and implementation of all schemes and programmes.

Youth Leadership & Development

  • Unleash the power of youth to address India's biggest challenge, and emerge as leaders of tomorrow.

Employment & Entrepreneurship

  • Empower  young Indians to grow enterprises and find sustainable productive employment.

Health & Fitness 

  • Ensure health and well- being for youths of all identities.
  • Develop a culture of fitness and sports among youths, and achieve national and international eminence.

Social Justice

  • Create a just and equal society based on mutual respect where the youth feel safe, included and able to exercise their rights.


  • Enable all youths to take charge of their future through equitable access to quality education.
