On 5th March 2022, the Union Ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, inaugurated the Sagar Parikrama
The Program Sagar Parikrama was started from Mandvi at Shyamiji Krishna Varma Memorial, Gujarat. Later, it will be organised in other districts of Gujarat and other State/Uts in next phases.
It is a part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava.
It will end at Porbandar on 6 March, 2022
It is aimed at understanding 'challenges' 'experiences' and 'aspirations from fishermen community.
The Parikrama shall be accompanied by the
(1) State Fisheries officials
(2) Fishermen representatives
(3) Fish - farmers entrepreneurs
(6) Officials & Scientists from across the nation
During this events, the certificates related to the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Scheme, KCC & State scheme shall be awarded to the progressive coastal fishermen.
The literature on PMMSY scheme shall be popularized through digital compaigns, media, videos electronic media, print media etc.
Government of India is in the forefront in transforming the fisheries sector and to formulate fisheries management plans along with regulatory framework towards effective fisheries governance to ensure responsive development through an ecosystem approach.
The journey of Sagar Parikrama shall focus on not just only for food security but with the livelihoods of coastal fisher communities and protection of Marine ecosystem.
