UP Government to Launch ‘Happiness Curriculum’ in Primary Schools
Recently state in-charge (happiness curriculum) Saurabh Malviya of Uttar Pradesh government has announced that UP government will roll out happiness curriculum in primary schools of Uttar Pradesh from next session from april (2022).
What is Happiness Curriculum?
It calls for schools to address the well being and happiness of students along with inculcating skills of critical thinking and inquiry.
It will enable students to connect with themselves, family, society, nature and the country.
The curriculum calls for schools to promote development in cognition, language, literacy, numeracy and the arts along with addressing the wellbeing and happiness of students.
It is suppose to be based on human-centric education which includes meditation, value education and mental exercises.
Five books will be prepared for the children in classes 1 to 5 and is being prepared by organising a workshop of 32 teachers.
Mahatma Gandhi said “By education, I mean an all-round drawing of the best in child and man in body, mind and spirit”.
The primary purpose of education has to be to create happy, confident and fulfilled human beings who will play a meaningful role in society.
With increasing pressure on students from both parents and teachers to score more marks, this inventiveness of the Government is expected to help the students to cope up with stress and learn for life, not for just a rank.
This resonates the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi’s quote "Literary education is of no value, if it is not able to build up a sound character".
