NITI Aayog has launched the e-Sawaari India Electric Bus Coalition, in partnership with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) and World Resources Institute, India (WRI), and supported by Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI).
Purpose of the coalition
With its launch central government agencies, state government agencies, city-level government agencies, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), transit service providers, financing institutions, and ancillary service providers would be able to share their learnings and knowledge on e-bus adoption in India.
Coalition will help in identifying innovative means to address the challenges of procurement, operations and financing e-bus deployment at scale.
This will help in accelerating deployment of e-buses in India to achieve rapid decarbonization.
It will help in greening the public transport system in India which will greatly contribute to achieving India’s Net Zero targets.
Under the ambit of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) scheme, Phase – II, through the ongoing Grand Challenge for Deployment of e-Buses - has encouraged more state government undertakings (STUs) to change their bus fleet to electric.
The major issue that they face is in domain of procurement, operations and financing.
Coalition will provide innovative ideas that will help in creating an enabling ecosystem to access funding and financing of electric buses and will prove as a major step towards ensuring steady and paced electrification of the bus transport system in India.
